Ginny Lee is a junior majoring in RTVF and environmental sciences. She first became interested in the Pritzker Pucker studio lab due to its focus on exploring mental health through writing and filmmaking, as well as the valuable resources the program offered through guest speakers and film equipment instruction to help develop a nuanced approach to storytelling. Ginny’s project is a short film which will explore the microcosm of isolation and social withdrawal that are symptoms of depression from the point of view of an Asian American woman. Through this, she hopes to combat negative stereotypes regarding mental health in the Asian American community and deconstruct the ‘tortured artist’ trope. Outside of this program, she is interested in exploring how current environmental issues can be conveyed through audiovisual media and storytelling to overcome ecological apathy.
