Elshadai Aberra is a third-year student at Northwestern University, majoring in Radio/Television/Film and minoring in Art, Theory, and Practice. They are passionate about storytelling, whether it be via visual arts, film, writing, or photography. Elshadai has always felt disheartened by the lack of intersectionality and accuracy in Western media’s storytelling and how mental illness – specifically bipolar disorder – has been portrayed. Elshadai hopes to weave individual experiences into their Pritzker Pucker Studio Lab project so that they can best create a nuanced portrait of being bipolar. They plan to accomplish this through experimental documentary filmmaking interwoven with visual art.
