Catherine S. Carrigan

Catherine Carrigan advises undergraduate students in the departments of Radio/Television/Film and Theatre and serves as the Director of Undergraduate Programs for Radio/Television/Film. Her work in higher education as a lecturer and advisor has focused on helping students recognize their academic, personal and professional goals and she has taught in the areas of career and life planning as well as psychodynamic theory. Currently, Catherine teaches multiple sections of the School of Communication’s internship course, through which students connect their pre-professional internship experiences with their academic learning.

Catherine holds a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Northwestern and has experience in career advising for undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni. She also earned a law degree from the University of Michigan and worked for several years in the areas of employment law, class action defense, and general commercial litigation. For nearly ten years, Catherine co-managed Dance Dance Party Party, a freestyle dance program for women that has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, the New York Times, and The Guardian. More recently, she has stepped down from that role to devote more time to her new love: woodworking. (For full bio visit https://communication.northwestern.edu/faculty/catherine-carrigan/)
